Service alert

We know that the site has had some issues over the last few months. The issue has been due to our hosting service (arvixe) so we are in the process of moving to a new hosting service.

A query about schools attempting to fight confessions pages.

We here at college confessions do our best to provide an unbiased freedom of speech while still protecting the identity of the people who use our website. In the past year we have had some issues resulting from the existence of the website which we have been queried about.

Many schools have fought the confessions page in different ways. Everything from threatening to block Facebook, to threatening the website because of the actions of a facebook page.

We would also like to at this point say we will work with the police and have contacted the police of local schools when any threatening posts come up.

We would also like to take this time to say that we at college-confessions try to keep up with the different schools but try only to intervene when the admins of the school are not acting appropriately. Much in the same way facebook only intervene's when pages are abusive and not responding to correction.

A funny email.

We received this email which made us laugh...

Dear Sir/Madam,
I viewed your twitter site and actually it's quit disturbing its more like a verbal porn site and maybe should be monitored a just a little bit better by your admin staff.  It's only respectful to remember that parents are paying & students are paying large amounts of tuition to go to these schools and maybe these anonymous posts should have real names attached to them?   In this country we do have college students who are only age 17 entering freshman year and  in my personal opinion I feel the twitter site needs to be cleaned up because it's actually very "filthy" and it's not funny.  Maybe it's supposed to be funny but you do have ppl. under 21 attending college & universities yet that twitter site has tons of confessions about drinking at college.  When underage drinking & see is talking place whether fact or fiction it's actually a form of promoting this behavior and underage drinking.
As a parent of a soon to be college student I feel someone should monitor this twitter site at least clean it up just a bit because the casual joking about drug use and drinking in college or even this disturbing pornographic sex talk (which is quit filthy) should at least be filtered slightly so it doesn't turn into a total
porn twitter site.   That will probably be the next step with the photos.

I'm sure I'm not he only parent that feels this way & I am respectfully only suggesting that maybe your dominant could clean up or deny posts on the twitter site that are too disgusting and step over the line.

Just a concerned & tuition paying parent,
Best Regards & Thank you for listening,

I wanted to reply with a few thoughts.

"I viewed your twitter site and actually it's quit disturbing its more like a verbal porn site and maybe should be monitored a just a little bit better by your admin staff."

We have no issue with "verbal porn", most schools have students who have decided they want to take responsibility for their schools. We have seen some shocking stuff come through that you will never see on the site. Our system can integrate with twitter. We are not a twitter site, we are not wholly or partially owned by twitter, just a couple of people who make websites.

"It's only respectful to remember that parents are paying & students are paying large amounts of tuition to go to these schools and maybe these anonymous posts should have real names attached to them? "

No. No. No. No. No. Unless we are taking social security numbers or something as intrusive as that we cannot nor ever will take real names. This has got to be one of the dumbest requests we get.
1. We don't wanna know who you are.
2. There is no way to say who you are. Sure we could track you from Facebook/twitter, but that defeats the purpose of the site, many people do not take any security precautions and it is just not gonna happen.
3. How is the fact people pay for tuition relevant in any way? We do not host on an schools server, nor are funded by any university or any other higher education institution.
4. At 17 year old's have seen hardcore internet porn. This is tame. Unless your child is locked under a rock he/she has more than likely seen pornography, more than 50% are sexually active at 18.

"Maybe it's supposed to be funny but you do have ppl. under 21 attending college & universities yet that twitter site has tons of confessions about drinking at college.  When underage drinking & see is talking place whether fact or fiction it's actually a form of promoting this behavior and underage drinking."

Yes because my website which does not live up to your standards. States raise the drinking age to keep highway funding see "National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984" I am not here to debate the fact that while illegal, people can talk about it.We are a confessions site, not your fucking nanny. We have this thing called the first amendment.

"That will probably be the next step with the photos."

Way ahead of you, we already have images it is up to the individual school administrator to regulate them as (s)he sees fit. If they want to have more graphic content that is fine.

"I'm sure I'm not he only parent that feels this way & I am respectfully only suggesting that maybe your dominant could clean up or deny posts on the twitter site that are too disgusting and step over the line."

Feel free to report any posts that have names or personally identifiable information so we may remove (the information not the confession)

NEW ADMIN FEATURE! Automatic Confession Approval

Admins, your job just got easier!

Now, you have the option to allow all of your submitted confessions to be posted immediately (OK, within 2 minutes to be precise) to your Facebook page.  This means instant gratification for your confessors and less work for you as an admin!

To enable this feature, log in to college-confessions.com/admin and click on the Settings button near the top of the page.  You will see the option to Enable Automatic Confession Approval.

Now I know the first thing you are thinking is that, "hey, what about all the garbage that I filter out on a regular basis? Won't this allow all sorts of crap to be posted?" and you're right to worry... because we know full well some of the junk that comes through.  But now you can put the burden of flagging inappropriate content onto your users.  Whenever a post is sent to Facebook via the automatic approval process, it will also attach a link to the post that lets the users "Report This Confession".  When a user reports a confession, it is immediately removed from Facebook (and our site as well) and gets put into a Pending status.  All of these reported confessions will then go to you for the final say.

You will then go back to your admin page as you always have before and all the reported confessions will show up here.  Except now, if you approve one of these confessions that were reported, the option for your users to report it is no longer available, since you have made your ruling!

We plan to make this feature even more robust in the future by adding a keyword list for you so that you can add words (people's names for instance) that will trigger the confession to go immediately into the Pending status instead of being allowed through automatically, so keep an eye out for that in the near future.

Let us know what  you think of this new feature!  Comment here or drop us a line at admin -at- college-confessions.com.  We're always looking for new ways to make your job as a confessions page admin even easier.

Thanks as always for being a part of the site!

Anonymous Comments... for Facebook!

The site just keeps getting better and better!

We recently revamped our commenting system.  And now, this has led us to the roll out of our latest feature, sending those comments to your Facebook page.  If a user creates an account on college-confessions.com, (which can be completely anonymous of course.  We only require they pick a user name and password.  The Email field is optional), when they comment on a confession at college-confessions.com, you have the option as a page admin whether you want that comment to also get posted to the confession on your Facebook wall as well!

The comment will show up as being made by your page.  But the comment will be prefixed with the username they chose when they created the account on our site.  For example, say you have a Facebook page called CoolSchool Confessions.  Now say a user creates an account on college-confessions with a username of SuperMan.  They then comment on the confession at our site. If you enable sending comments to Facebook, you will also see on your Facebook post a comment like this:

CoolSchool Confessions [SuperMan]: I am too cool for this CoolSchool.

The username has been prefixed to the comment and surrounded in brackets to let people know that comment was made anonymously through the site and not by your account.

Let us know what you think of this feature!  We always welcome all of our page admin's feedback.  We already have the best confessions site out there, but that doesn't mean we don't constantly look for new ways to improve.  We want to STAY the best!

Happy confessing!

And the new features keep on coming

We keep striving to make our site the best confessions website out there.  Well, we already think we are the best out there, but that doesn't stop us from wanting to improve.

One request we have seen from time to time from Facebook page admins is the ability to see the IP address of the person that submitted the confession.  This is now a configurable option.  Current admins, when you log in to the administration page, you will see a new Settings button.  When you click on that, it will take you to a new page with all sorts of new features.  One of which is the option to show information about who submitted a confession.  Including their IP address and the account they were logged in as when they submitted it.

On this new settings page you will have the ability to require your users to submit confessions using an account that they create on our site.  And not to worry about privacy for your confessors, while there is an email field on the form, it is not required.  We require no personal information at all to create an account.  At some point in the future, we will be able to use this email field to send users notifications about their submitted confessions, such as when they get approved or when someone comments on one of their confessions.  This is still a work in progress.  But for now, admins can use the new account creation feature to help prevent spamming.  Because if you require users to have an account before they can submit, then you can add usernames to your block list and you will never see any confessions they submit... and they will not even know their confessions are getting blocked!

Let's say you have 1000 spam confessions from one account.  Go into the settings section of the admin site and add that user name to the block list.  Now when you go back to look at your pending confessions... ALL of those confessions from that user will be hidden!  And you can always unhide them as well by simply going back and removing them from the block list.  Simple as that!

I should also mention the fact that we now allow page admins to change the password on their admin account.  I am sure a number of you would be happy to not use the (sometimes) crazy passwords we come up with for you.  Now you have the ability to set it to whatever you like.

And here's a feature that will be coming soon as well... the ability to add sub-admins.  In the future, you will be able to create a new account on the site, then log into your primary admin account and set that user as an admin for your page.  This way, if you have a page admin that goes rogue, you can simply remove them as an admin and they won't be able to moderate the confessions for your page anymore.  Stay tuned for this feature.  Hopefully coming very soon.

Once again we are demonstrating our commitment to our Facebook page affiliates and doing everything we can to make their task of moderating hundreds and sometimes thousands of confessions as easy as possible.

Don't forget to check out our mobile app for Android devices.  Users can stay up to date with all the latest confessions right from their phone or even submit confessions, vote confessions up or down, or share them via Facebook, Twitter, or Email.  And coming soon... you will be able to administer your confessions from the mobile app as well.  It is still a work in progress, but we welcome you to put it through its paces while we develop it into something great.  Download it now from the Google Play store absolutely free:
